Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs demolition and rough carpentry work (aspects of construction necessary to get the structure weathertight) under supervision of the foreman. Performs detail-oriented finish work with wood, composite materials, and other products.
Before demolition ensure surfaces are protected as required.
Strip exterior and interior finishes as directed by foreman.
Demolish existing structures as directed by foreman.
Accurately frame floors, walls, decks, and roofs according to construction documents and contract.
Ensure rough openings are framed to correct sizes and are square.
Install windows and exterior doors, including proper weather protection.
Install siding, roofing, exterior trim, and all associated underlay materials and weather protection.
Install decking, including proper weather protection.
Verify all rough carpentry is acceptable for finish work
Install interior trim including baseboard, window and door casing, crown moulding, and specialty trim such as wainscoting and paneling.
Install all finish components of stairs including treads, risers, skirts, newel posts, rails, and balusters.
Hang interior doors and install hardware.
Install kitchen cabinets, vanities, and household accessories.
Construct custom built-ins and cabinets.
Install all components of dropped ceilings.
Install decking and railings.
Install exterior trim including window and door trim, corner boards, fascias, rakes, soffits, friezes, and skirts.
Ensure building codes are met.
Generate material lists daily, for materials to be on site in a timely manor.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to five years related experience and/or training OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to communicate courteously and professionally
Ability to carry heavy loads up to 100 lbs
Ability to read and interpret construction documents
Detailed knowledge of building materials, methods, and codes
Familiarity with rough carpentry
Proficiency with hand and power tools including saws, planers, nailers, and drills
Basic math skills
Attention to detail
